“Unutterable Space” exhibit to open at Watermark

February 5, 2021

“Unutterable Space, Landscapes of Northern Minnesota” will open at Watermark Art Center on February 1, 2020.

“Unutterable Space” is an exploration of the fundamental issues of experience, particularly with regard to Northern Minnesota landscapes. Mark Granlund’s oil paintings focus on the point of convergence between experience and construct, layers and shape, and the metaphysical landscape where energies of a scene distill into patterns.

Appealing to sensory input, his large canvases and panels pull the eye through moments of detail, taking the viewer deeper into the experience of the art.

Granlund’s regular visits to the Minnesota/Canada border, where he explores the landscape of his father’s childhood, have forged an attentiveness to its unique combination of water, rocks, trees and sky. In his paintings he is recognizing the energy patterns that are kindred between body and rock, thought and sky, feelings and water, all in the presence of a witnessing spirit.
Watermark Art Center is now open and free to the public Wednesdays- Saturdays 10 – 5pm. 505 Bemidji Avenue N., Bemidji MN. 218-444-7570. WatermarkArtCenter.org.
