Federal grand jury indicts Red Lake man on 11 counts, including murder of Officer Ryan Bialke

A federal grand jury indicted a Red Lake man for the murder of Red Lake Tribal Officer Ryan Bialke.

The 11-count indictment against 28-year-old David Donnell, Jr., also includes charges of attempted murder against four other officers and firearms violations.

RLTPD officers responded to a welfare check on July 27.

Upon arrival, Donnell, instead of going towards officers, went inside the residence.

Donnell had an active tribal warrant and was refusing to comply with officers, so the officers decided to breach the door.

Donnell began firing as soon as the door was breached, according to the release, immediately striking Officer Bialke.

Officer Bialke succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

Officers arrested Donnell at a nearby residence after he fled the scene.

The 11-count indictment includes first-degree murder, four counts of assault with intent to commit murder, four counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and two firearm-related offenses.
