Fire claims life of toddler near Remer

A house fire in Remer early Friday morning claimed the life of a toddler.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports first responders arrived around 2 that morning on the report of a house fire in Boy Lake Township.

Deputies were first to arrive and found a residential duplex engulfed in flames.

Deputies were able to locate one adult female inside a bedroom and escort her to safety.

The body of a one-year-old boy was found inside.

Another adult woman and three children were able to escape the fire before first responders arrived.

An autopsy for the child is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the investigation into the fire continues.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office, Leech Lake Tribal Police, Longville Fire, Federal Dam Fire, and Remer Fire also responded to the scene.
