First 2023 budget discussion for Bemidji City Council Monday

The Bemidji City Council will review potential budget items for next year in their work session Monday, and the presentation from Finance Director Ron Eischens notes multiple big-ticket uncertainties.

Beyond the possible major remodel or new build of City Hall, capital issues include costs to clean up the rail corridor as well as building public infrastructure there.

The city may need funds for grant matches for redevelopment and clean-up for this project.

Staff is also recommending reducing the budgeted Sanford Center deficit.

The city has previously budgeted $450,000 a year for an operational deficit, and staff now recommend budgeting $308,000 in losses.
