Foster parent pleads guilty to child endangerment

A foster parent pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony child endangerment.

According to the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, 69-year-old Martha Smith of Red Lake admitted to shackling a five-year-old girl to a high chair through a 2019 October night.

The child reportedly suffered bruising and lacerations, as well as mental and emotional trauma.

Smith also admitted to neglect and endangerment since the child came into her care as a three-month-old infant.

The FBI and Red Lake Police Department conducted the investigation. Smith will be sentenced at a later date.
