Fundraising effort underway to erect historic BHS arch

The “Old Bemidji High School, Remembered” is a project to rebuild one of the entry arches from the old Bemidji High School building, and construction is set to begin this summer.

The arch was saved before the school’s demolition in 2008, with a plan to reconstruct it on the current high school grounds, near the Bemidji Community Arena.

Raising the arches, according to a release, will cost approximately $150,000. The George W. Neilson Foundation pledged $50,000, with $25,000 of the funds a matching grant.

The release says the matching funds must be raised before the re-assembly of the arch may begin.

Checks can be submitted to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation-Old BHS Remembered Fund, mailed to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation on 201 3rd. St. in Bemidji.

Donations can also be made online, and more information is available on the group’s Facebook page.
