Gov. Walz plans Bemidji visit

Gov. Tim Walz will visit Bemidji today. According to a release, the visit is only open to the press, but will highlight the new funding for Bemidji’s water treatment plant.

The Local Jobs and Project Bill signed by the Governor last week included over $10 million for the construction of the plant, which is designed to treat Bemidji’s water of PFAs.

The PFAs contamination of the city’s wells is connected to a firefighting foam used at the Bemidji Regional Airport, directly above the city’s well field, decades ago.

Bemidji Mayor Rita Albrecht and House 5A Representative John Persell are scheduled to attend.
