The Beltrami County Attorney’s Office reports Becky Stough entered a guilty plea to third-degree murder for her role in distributing fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose.

Stough, 44, did not directly give the pills to the victim, identified in court records as “R.R.,” and the Beltrami County Attorney remarks this is the first such murder prosecution where the drug dealer did not directly supply the victim.
Stough reportedly admitted in court that she sold pills she knew were laced with fentanyl, and that a foreseeable outcome of selling these pills would be that people could die.
According to the original complaint, deputies with the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and agents with the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force responded to Maple Ridge Court in June 2020 on the report of an overdose with an unresponsive victim.
Remnants of the victim’s pills were found on the scene, with law enforcement able to trace the pills back to Stough and another defendant.
Stough is scheduled to be sentenced on June 27.
