Hibbing man killed in Itasca County ATV crash

The Minnesota State Patrol reports a 60-year-old Hibbing man was killed in an ATV crash Saturday afternoon.

According to the report, Martin Plaisted was southbound in the east ditch of Highway 65 in Itasca County, near Nashwauk, when he hit an elevated part of the ditch and the ATV rolled.

The driver was then trapped under the ATV and was submerged under water, suffering fatal injuries.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the crash, since it happened outside the travel portion of the roadway.

MSP says Plaisted was not wearing a helmet, and it is not yet known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The Minnesota DNR assisted at the scene.
