Highway 71 project begins May 16

MnDOT crews will begin reconstructing Highway 71 next week.

MnDOT says the project will be completed in four phases.

Stage 1 will include preparing alternate routes, Stage 2 will construct most of the roundabout and begin Highway 71 resurfacing, Stage 3 will construct the remaining leg of the roundabout and continue the highway resurfacing, and Stage 4 will finish off the corridor and intersection improvement.

The project will span from Highway 197 to Winter Sumac Road on Highway 71, with J-Turns built at each intersection except at Anne Street, where the roundabout will be built.

The first phase of Stage 1 will realign Hannah Avenue to meet with Minnkota Avenue and improve intersections at Fern Street.

More details on each phase are available on the MnDOT project website.

Project staff will meet weekly either in person or virtually beginning May 18 with members of the public welcome to attend.
