Home lost in early Sunday morning fire

A home was destroyed in a fire early Sunday in Bemidji.

Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood reports that firefighters responded to the 4000 block of Bemidji Avenue North just after midnight.

As firefighters approached the scene, they found heavy fire and smoke in the basement of the single-story residence. Firefighters attempted to make entry but due to the high heat and heavy smoke, fought the fire from the exterior.

One firefighter was injured and treated at the scene.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting with the investigation into the cause of the fire.

Bemidji Police Department, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Ottertail Power and Minnesota Energy also assisted at the scene.
