Hot weather reminders ahead of steamy weekend

The surprisingly hot weather in store for later this week and into the weekend has prompted reminders about how to endure the heat.

Beltrami County Emergency Management Director Christopher Muller speculates that this weekend is the best chance to reach triple digits in this area for many years, with heat indexes of greater than 100 possible.

To avoid heat-related ailments such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, Northern Minnesotans are reminded to drink more water, less alcohol; stay in air conditioning when possible; and never leave anyone, including pets, in vehicles on hot days.

Other tips include wearing lightweight, lightly colored loose-fitting clothes, checking on the elderly and those who are homebound, and avoiding rigorous outdoor activity during high heat and humidity.

“For Minnesota standards, it’s gonna be ‘uff’da’ hot this weekend,” said Muller.
