Jackson, Staples-Fairbanks win re-election bids

The unofficial election results from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe’s primary show incumbent Faron Jackson Senior will keep his Chairperson position after receiving over 50 percent of the vote.

For District III, incumbent Leroy Staples-Fairbanks won over 70 percent of the vote.

Both positions are four year terms. Leech Lake’s primary was originally scheduled for March but due to the pandemic, it was postponed until yesterday.

Since both incumbents in this primary won over half of the vote, both Jackson and Staples-Fairbanks are anticipated to be declared the winners, once the unofficial election results are accepted.
