DULUTH- Authorities in Duluth have confirmed that a body pulled from the Minnesota Slip in Canal Park is the missing UMD student Jacob Lavoie.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Duluth police recovered Lavoie from the water around 3 PM on Friday.  The 21-year-old senior from Inver Grove Heights was last seen leaving Grandma’s Sports Garden early Sunday morning.

University of Minnesota Duluth Chancellor, Lendley Black said in a statement,

“This is an incredibly sad time. As much as we try to be prepared for something like this, it’s extremely difficult. UMD is such a tight community and we’re concerned for Jacob’s family, his friends on campus, and the faculty and staff that knew him.”
