Juveniles in custody after shooting, lockdowns in Cass Lake

Two juveniles are in custody after gunfire and lockdowns in the Cass Lake area yesterday morning.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, weapons fire was reported around 11 a.m. in Pike Bay Township. Deputies and Leech Lake Tribal Officers met with two boys and their families.

The victims said they were traveling in a vehicle when they approached the two juvenile male suspects on the roadway.

The victims reported that while inside their vehicle they were shot at, with several rounds of weapons striking the vehicle.

After an extensive search of a large wooded area, both suspects, two juvenile males, were taken into custody without incident with weapons recovered.

Several nearby Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe offices and facilities, Cass Lake IHS, and educational facilities were advised of the situation and went through lockdown procedures until the situation was resolved.

No injuries were reported.
