Beltrami K9 Rip assisted in a recent gun crime arrest.

Early Thursday morning, deputies from both the Hubbard and Beltrami County Sheriff’s Offices were at the Pete’s Place South parking lot when they saw a semi-automatic pistol sitting on the trunk of a nearby car.

During the traffic stop that followed, a juvenile male passenger reportedly fled into a swampy area on foot. The gun on the car’s trunk was secured and the remaining four male occupants were detained.

According to the release, K9 Rip was deployed after several warnings and found another gun 75 yards into the track.

The juvenile surrendered a short time later and was taken into custody.

The firearm found on the track was later confirmed to be a stolen weapon.

Two other juveniles were taken to Northwest Juvenile Center with pending weapons charges, and an 18-year-old Bemidji man is facing traffic and gun crime charges as well as contributing to the delinquency of a child.
