Kelliher teen seriously injured in ATV crash

A 14-year-old boy was critically injured in an ATV crash Sunday on Highway 72 in Kelliher.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jarrett Walton says the teen drove through a washed-out area, flipped the machine and was thrown off of it.

“The juvenile operator came upon an area that had been washed out by recent snowmelt,” wrote Walton.

“The washout created a two- to three-foot ledge.”

The juvenile was wearing a helmet but sustained serious injuries, needing air transport to the Hennepin Medical Center.

Blackduck Ambulance, North Aircare, Kelliher First Responders and the Minnesota State Patrol assisted at the scene.
