Law enforcement responded to 62 overdoses since Dec. 1

Regional law enforcement departments say they have responded to 62 overdoses since Dec. 1, with 10 of them being fatal.

According to a joint release from the Red Lake Nation, White Earth Nation, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, Beltrami County and the Bemidji Police Department, the significant increase in recent opioid overdoses may be attributed to synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl, which the life-saving drug Narcan has little effect on.

If you believe a family member may be abusing opioids, common symptoms of opioid abuse include: drowsiness, uncontrollable cravings, frequent flu-like symptoms, change in sleep habit and isolation.
