Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office releases video of officer-involved shooting

The Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office released a portion of video from an officer-involved shooting last month.

The initial release from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said that 20-year-old Shequoya Basswood of Mahnomen needed treatment for gunshot injuries at Sanford Fargo.

Basswood has since been charged with numerous felonies including attempted murder and assault, charges of fleeing police and firearm violations as well as a number of warrants at the time of her arrest.

The MCSO said they released the video segment because of some social media posts from the cities that used the involved officer’s picture in a “wanted” poster.

Mahnomen County Sheriff’s deputy Dakota Czerny fired the weapon that struck Basswood.

The video shows him attempting to detain four of the six occupants of the vehicle. Official statements say that Czerny saw Basswood with a handgun, and the video shows him shouting “drop the gun,” twice, as he backs away.

Five gunshots can be heard in the video.

Only Basswood was injured in the shooting. The BCA investigation is still ongoing.
