Meet the Candidates: Beltrami County District 3

The “Meet the Candidates” series continues with the two candidates in the Beltrami County District 3 race.

Due to redistricting, all commissioner seats are up for election this year.

The new Beltrami County District 3 includes the City of Solway, City of Wilton; and the township of Bemidji, Buzzle, Eckles, Grant Valley, Jones, Lammers and Liberty.

The candidates are listed in the order they were interviewed.

RICHARD ANDERSON

Richard Anderson is the incumbent in this race, having served on the Beltrami County Board since 2011.

Anderson is a retired educator, with his last posting at Bemidji High School as principal.

Anderson says he brings a lot of negotiation experience and wants to keep politics out of the boardroom.

BRIAN MERSCHMAN

Brian Merschman is a longtime Bemidji-area resident with years of experience in political service as a supervisor of Bemidji Township.

Merschman currently works in public transit and also has many years of experience in the automotive service industry.

Merschman wants to learn more about county government and hopes to take his service experience to the next level.
