Milaca man treated for hypothermia after falling through thin ice

A Milaca man was treated for hypothermia after falling into the water in Becker County’s Rice Lake.

According to a release, the Becker County Sheriff’s Office responded to the south side of Rice Lake near Rock-Rice Road, and found that the 36-year-old man was pulled from the water by passing snowmobilers.

The man, Jason Morris, told deputies he was southbound on his snowmobile when he approached the open water between Rock and Rice Lakes.

His snowmobile skidded and broke through the thin ice.

The passing snowmobilers were able to pull Morris out using a tow strap.

Morris was transported to Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of hypothermia.

The Callaway and Detroit Lakes Fire Departments and Becker County Dive and Rescue also responded to the scene.
