More local names entered into political races

Audrey Thayer has thrown her hat in the ring for Bemidji City Council Ward 1, according to city clerk Michelle Miller.

In the Beltrami County Board, Joe Vene is now challenging incumbent Reed Olson for the District 2 seat.

Vene held the District 2 seat for three terms prior to Olson’s victory in the 2016 election. Vene also ran for Mayor of Bemidji in 2018.

Jim Lucachick also filed this week for his District 5 seat.

In Senate District 2, Paul Utke of Park Rapids has filed for re-election and is facing a challenge from the DFL-endorsed candidate Leonard Alan Roy from Ogema.

John Persell also filed for re-election to the House 5A seat.

In House 5B, Sandy Layman is running for re-election and is facing a challenge from DFL-er Joe Abeyta.

The filing period for local, county, state and federal offices is open until June 2 at 5 p.m.
