The Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force will participate in the DEA’s Prescription Drug Take Back Day next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Expired, unwanted or unused medication can be brought to the Beltrami County Law Enforcement Center. Medication can be dropped off at the Records Office window.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the country continue to be alarmingly high, according to a release, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
The EPA and FDA have advised the public against flushing their prescription drugs down the toilet or throwing them in the trash, as they pose potential safety and health hazards.
Now in its eleventh year, the DEA has collected over 12.5 million pounds of expired, unused and unwanted medications through Take Back Day events.
The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps at this event.
The Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force covers Beltrami, Hubbard, Cass, Koochiching, and Mahnomen counties, the cities of Bemidji, Park Rapids and International Falls, and the Leech Lake and White Earth reservations.
