One injured in alcohol-related crash

The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office reports that driving under the influence may have been a contributing factor in a crash early Saturday morning.

According to the release from Sheriff Cory Aukes, deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash on Hubbard County Road 4 at the intersection at CR 18 around 1:17 a.m. Saturday, June 13.

The investigation determined that 22-year-old Sarah Gamache of Park Rapids was southbound on CR 4 in a 2008 Mazda when she was struck head-on by a northbound 1998 Jeep, driven by 33-year-old Emma Helfrich of Minneapolis.

Helfrich’s Jeep crossed the centerline where it collided with the Mazda.

Gamache was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital by a private vehicle and was treated for her injuries.

Helfrich had been drinking earlier in the evening, according to the release, and failed a field sobriety test.

She was arrested for DUI and transported to the Hubbard County Jail.
