Park Rapids man arrested after hitting pedestrian while intoxicated

A Park Rapids man is facing charges after hitting a pedestrian while under the influence.

The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office says earlier this month on July 7, an 18-year-old Park Rapids woman was walking on the shoulder of 170th Street when a Ford Ranger struck her from behind, injuring her hand and foot.

The vehicle then sped away, and with broken parts of the vehicle found at the scene, officers soon found a matching vehicle. The crash was reported around 9:41 p.m.

Fifty-four-year-old Robert Mackay, Jr., admitted to seeing people walking along the side of the road and had been drinking “a lot”. A preliminary breath test showed a BAC of double the legal limit at .16. Mackay was placed under arrest for DUI.
