PARK RAPIDS– A Park Rapids man has been charged with several felony counts including arson, burglary, assault with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault following an incident where a man set his ex-girlfriend’s house on fire in Hubbard County last Tuesday.
According to the criminal complaint, 52-year-old Douglas Alan Young allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s house, stating he wanted to talk after their recent break up.
Young allegedly slammed the victim onto a table and held a knife as if he were going to stab her.
A SWAT team arrived after the victim grabbed the knife and ran from the house. Young was observed setting items on fire within the house, with extensive damage found in the rear bedroom and the residence as a whole.
Young reportedly had an alcohol concentration of .244, which is about three times the legal limit.
Young also has a lengthy criminal history, with convictions of assault, disorderly conduct, stalking and obstruction, and is currently on probation.
