Ponsford man sentenced to 8 years for assault that left victim hospitalized with brain trauma

A Ponsford man will spend more than eight years in prison for an assault on the White Earth Reservation that left another man hospitalized for weeks with brain trauma.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, 23-year-old Wesley Robert Warren was sentenced Thursday after being found guilty by a jury in mid-June.

Court documents say that on June 3, 2020, Warren and another man got into an argument with the victim. The argument escalated into a fight, with Warren and the other man knocking out the victim.

Once the fight was over and the victim was lying face down on the ground, Warren picked up a 42-pound cinderblock and dropped it on the back of the victim’s head.

The victim was hospitalized for several weeks and later transferred to a long-term care facility for brain trauma.

Warren will spend an additional three years on supervised release after his 100-month prison term.
