Public hearings for three restaurants’ outdoor dining permits tonight

Three Bemidji restaurants so far have applied for seasonal outdoor dining permits.

The Bemidji City Council will hold public hearings to consider these permits for Bar 209, That Alien Pizza Place, and Keg N Cork.

Bemidji Mayor Jorge Prince will also make a few proclamations for One Vegetable, One Community; Police Week; and a pledge supporting a 100% high school graduation rate.

The council will also consider awarding a bid to repair a drainage issue at Paul Bunyan Plaza.

Spring freeze-thaw cycles have caused damage to the Babe statue’s feet.

The request for bids for the project that would involve raising Babe was sent to 21 firms and was only returned by one, Jensen Conservation, who has worked on the statues before. Jensen’s bid is $147,000.

Two bids were received for another project, to design a catch basin and additional concrete work.

Reierson Construction submitted the lower bid at $124,000.

If approved, construction would begin in early August and be completed in late September.

Possible funding sources for the repairs would be the liquor store reserves, undesignated general fund reserves, or ARP funds.
