Red Flag warning in effect for Clearwater, other northwest counties

A Red Flag Warning is in effect in Clearwater County and other northwestern counties today.

According to a release from the Minnesota DNR, the area is experiencing critical weather conditions ideal for a wildfire, including strong winds and low humidity.

Any spark can become a wildfire under Red Flag conditions.

A Red Flag Warning was in effect for much of the state earlier this week, with a 13,000-acre swath of land near Mentor, now known as the Oxcart Fire, casting haze and smoke into the Bemidji area.

The latest reports show the Oxcart Fire is now 40 percent contained and appears to be caused by humans.

All other counties in the Bemidji area not under Red Flag Warning remain under spring burning restrictions.
