Red Lake man pleads guilty to domestic assault

A Red Lake man entered guilty pleas to three counts of domestic assault yesterday.

According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 45-year-old Edward Lee Bellanger was initially charged last June, and is scheduled to be sentenced this May.

Bellanger, according to court documents and his guilty plea, violently assaulted his victim on three separate occasions.

During one of the assaults, Bellanger, while driving his car, reached over to the victim and slammed her head into the windshield, cracking the glass.

The victim sought medical attention after the assaults and was treated for substantial bodily injuries.

The Red Lake Police Department and the FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force conducted the investigation.
