A Red Lake man was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a murder on the reservation in 2020.
According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 38-year-old Ralph Edward Cloud pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last July and was sentenced Tuesday.
Court documents say Cloud walked several miles to Allen Smith’s house on Sept. 12, 2020, concerned about a relationship between his wife and Smith, his cousin.
Cloud then attacked his cousin, using a metal cabinet and its drawers to beat him to death.
The Red Lake Tribal Police Department and the FBI Headwaters Safe Trails Task Force conducted the investigation.
