Red Lake, White Earth covered under Major Disaster Declaration

By: News Director Larissa Donovan

ST. PAUL– The Red Lake Band of Chippewa and the White Earth Nation will be covered under the Major Disaster Declaration, according to a release from Governor Tim Walz’s Office.

Walz announced yesterday that the major disaster declaration has been secured from the federal government, after major flooding, blizzard conditions and gale-force winds combined to cause nearly $40 million dollars in infrastructure damage across the state.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will pay 75 percent of eligible expenses and the state will cover the 25 percent non-federal share from the Disaster Assistance Contingency Account.

Polk, Roseau and Mahnomen Counties are also covered under the declaration.
