Road construction season starts May 10 in Bemidji

Drivers along Highway 2 west of Bemidji can expect delays and detours as MnDOT begins construction.

According to a release, there will be a short-term detour during the Beltrami County Road 9/Highway 2 intersection work, which is estimated to take place May 10 through early June.

The project will include the installation of several reduced conflict intersections,  as well as the installation of 48 LED lighting units along the corridor from Beltrami County Road 14 in Wilton to County Road 9.

RCIs, according to MnDOT, “decrease fatalities and injuries caused by T-bone crashes on four-lane divided highways.”

The RCIs are also known as “J-Turns” and “Michigan Lefts.”

Gladen Construction Inc. is the contractor for the $2.89 million project. For more information and a project map, visit the website at www.mndot.gov/d2/projects/hwy2-bemidji/.
