Sanford Bemidji now a trauma hospital

The Minnesota Department of Health recently designated the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center as a level 3 trauma hospital.

According to a release, trauma is the third leading cause of death in Minnesota, and DHS director Jan Malcolm says with Bemidji’s designation, more seriously injured Minnesotans have access to an organized system of trauma care in this part of the state.

The time between sustaining an injury and receiving definitive care is the most important predictor of survival, according to the release.
