The Minnesota Department of Health reported 835 new cases of COVID-19, and eight new COVID-related deaths today, bringing the state’s totals to 68,133 cases and 1,753 deaths.
Of those deaths, 1,753 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of those cases, 7,559 were health care workers.
To date, over 1.34 million tests have been completed, with over 1.04 million individuals tested.
Over 18,000 COVID tests were completed between MDH and external laboratories Thursday, Aug. 20.
Since the first case was reported in Minnesota, 60,920 COVID patients have been released from isolation.
Total hospitalizations are under 300 again today, with 136 patients in ICU wards. Yesterday, 148 were in ICU wards.
MDH reported one new COVID case in Beltrami County today, bringing the cumulative total to 287 with one death. Beltrami County Public Health’s Megan Heuer reported yesterday that the county was monitoring 17 active cases and no hospitalizations. Pending tests were uncertain at the time of her report, but she advised that it takes about 48 hours for a test result to come back at this time.
MDH also reported two new COVID-19 cases in Cass County, bringing the total to 88 cases with three deaths; one new case in Hubbard County, total of 40 cases; two new cases in Itasca County, total of 155 with 12 deaths; one new case in Koochiching County, total of 85 with three deaths; and one new case in Mahnomen County, total of 32 cases with one death.
MDH updated their COVID-exposed congregate care facilities list today. Facilities in our area include:

- Havenwood Care Center, Beltrami County
- Bigfork Valley Villa, Itasca County
- Grand Village, Itasca County
- Hillcrest Nashwauk, Itasca County
- Mahnomen Health Center, Mahnomen County
COVID-exposed means a person diagnosed with COVID-19 who either visited, worked or lived at a congregate care facility while they were contagious. The list is updated weekly on Fridays. If, in the past 28 days, no new cases were reported, the facility is removed from the list.
