Situation Update for Friday, Nov. 20

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 6,812 new COVID-19 cases today, with 6,500 new confirmed and 312 new probable cases, bringing the state’s total case count to 256,700, with 252,716 confirmed and 3,984 probable cases.

Sixty-eight new COVID deaths were reported today, bringing the state’s death toll to 3,150. Forty-four of today’s deaths were in nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

Of all COVID deaths, 2,159 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of all COVID cases, 19,676 were health care workers.

Over. 3.659 million COVID tests have been completed, with 3.588 million PCR and about 71,000 antigen tests completed. Yesterday, about 54,000 PCR and 4,400 antigen tests were completed.

To date, 202,432 COVID patients no longer need to be isolated.

Beltrami County’s 14th and 15th COVID deaths were reported today, a resident in their early 80s and a resident in their late 80s; Clearwater County’s fifth death, a resident in their early 80s; Hubbard County’s 18th and 19th COVID deaths were reported today, a resident in their late 70s and a resident in their late 80s; Itasca County’s 22nd death, a resident in their early 90s; and Roseau County’s second death, a resident in their late 80s.

The latest COVID-19 case rates from the state showed drastic increases across the north-central Minnesota region. In Beltrami County, for the two-week period ending Nov. 7, there was an increase of about 35 points to 98.01; in Cass County, an increase of close to 50 points, to 129.90; in Clearwater County, an increase of 56 points, to 161.14; and in Hubbard County, an increase of about 22 points, to 129.42.

MDH reported 34 new confirmed and two new probable cases in Beltrami County today, bringing the county’s case total to 1,688 confirmed and eight probable cases; 37 new cases in Cass County, for a total of 1,094 cases and eight deaths; nine new cases in Clearwater County, for a total of 392 confirmed and four probable cases; and 26 new cases in Hubbard County, for a total of 864 confirmed and three probable cases.

Itasca County’s case rate increased from 51.10 to 88.71, as MDH recorded 33 new cases in this county, for a total of 1,564 confirmed and two probable cases; Koochiching County’s case rate increased from 21.35 to 47.45, and MDH reported nine new cases today, bringing the county’s case total to 307 confirmed, one probable case and five deaths; Lake of the Woods County’s case rate increased from 39.38 to 47.26.

Mahnomen County’s case rate remained the same, at 74.46, as three new confirmed and one new probable case were added, bringing the county’s total to 218 confirmed cases, one probable case and four deaths. Roseau County’s case rate increased from 168.15 to 201.14, with MDH reported 48 new cases today, bringing their case totals to 778 confirmed and 96 probable cases.
