Situation Update for Monday, Aug. 17

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 567 new cases of COVID-19 today and six new COVID-related deaths, bringing the state’s totals to 65,716 cases and 1,712 deaths.

Of those deaths, 1,280 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of those cases, 7,281 were health care workers.

Over 1 million people were tested for COVID so far, with 1.266 million tests completed overall. On Sunday, almost 13,000 tests were completed.

To date, 58,859 COVID patients have been released from isolation.

Hospitalizations are under 300 for the second day in a row, with 155 patients in ICU settings and 131 in non-critical settings.

MDH reported the first COVID-related death in Beltrami County today. According to the report, the patient was in their 90s. MDH also reported four new COVID-19 cases in Beltrami County.

According to Beltrami Public Health’s Megan Heuer, the county is monitoring 19 active cases with two hospitalizations. As of today, 56 COVID tests are pending. The cumulative case total for Beltrami County is 275.

MDH reported one new case in Itasca County, bringing their cumulative total to 148 cases and 12 deaths.
