Situation Update for Thursday, Jan. 7

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 2,004 new cases of COVID-19 today and 44 new deaths, bringing the state’s case count to 429,570 and the death toll to 5,572.

Of all deaths, 3,576 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of all cases, 33,396 were health care workers.

Today’s data comes from 42,000 COVID tests completed yesterday. Over 3.041 million Minnesotans have been tested to date, with 5.803 million COVID tests completed.

Since last March, 408,510 COVID patients no longer need isolation.

MDH reported 18 new COVID-19 cases in Beltrami County today, 12 new cases in Cass County, one new case in Clearwater County, and eight new cases in Hubbard County.

So far, Beltrami County has had 2,975 COVID cases and 44 deaths, Cass County has had 1,983 cases and 20 deaths, Clearwater County has had 672 cases and 14 deaths, and Hubbard County has had 1,428 cases and 37 deaths.

MDH also updated the COVID-19 case rate by county spreadsheet. For the two-week period ending Dec. 26, Beltrami County’s case rate per 10,000 people dropped by about 23 points, to 44.12.

Cass County’s rate decreased about 22 points to 44.79, Clearwater County’s rate dropped about one point to 40.85, and Hubbard County’s rate dropped 23 points to 37.87.
