STATE UPDATES
Today, the Minnesota Department of Health reported an additional 652 COVID-19 cases in the state and 18 newly reported deaths, bringing the cumulative totals to 21,960 cases and 899 deaths.
Of those positive cases, 2,427 were health care workers that contracted the virus at some point over the course of the outbreak. To date, 732 of all COVID-19 deaths were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities.
Over 209,000 tests have been completed, and 15,523 have recovered to the point they no longer need to be isolated. Today, there are 570 Minnesotans hospitalized for COVID-19, and of those, 258 are in the intensive care unit.
GOV. TIM WALZ
A new poll released by KARE-11, the Star Tribune and MPR indicates that a majority of Minnesotans supported the Stay at Home Order issued by Gov. Tim Walz. According to their poll, 57 percent supported the order while another nine percent expressed support for further safety measures. Only 32 percent expressed opposition to the order.
Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, places of worship may open at 25 percent occupancy if they adhere to social distancing and other public health guidelines.
The Minnesota Lutherans and Catholics planned to defy a previous order that did not allow them to reopen their parishes, but the CDC issued new guidance for places of worship Friday, May 22.
LOCAL UPDATES
The Minnesota Department of Health reported the first case of COVID-19 in Hubbard County over the weekend. According to the Public Health Director for Hubbard County Marlee Morrison, the patient is quarantining at home.
MDH also reported some new cases in Beltrami County, bringing the cumulative total to 12; one new case in Clearwater County, bringing the total there to three; and a new case in Cass County bringing the total to 11 with two deaths. In Itasca County, their cumulative total, according to MDH, is 53 positive cases with seven deaths.
SUMMER CANCELLATIONS
Moondance Jam 30 has been postponed until 2021. According to their website, ticket holders for this year event will be able to have them honored for the new dates, July 22-24, 2021, and hope to have close to the same lineup.
Art in the Park, scheduled for July 2020, has been canceled. The next Art in the Park by the Watermark Art Center will be July 17-18, 2021.
