Situation Update for Wednesday, Aug. 5

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 629 newly-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and nine newly reported deaths, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 57,779 and a death toll of 1,629.

Of those deaths, 1,237 were residents in long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of those cases, 6,569 were health care workers.

Over 887,000 people have been tested so far, with over 1 million tests completed.

Over 51,000 patients have recovered to the point they no longer need to be isolated.

Hospitalizations dropped slightly today, there are 152 patients in ICU wards across the state and 153 others in non-critical hospital settings.

Minnesotans in their 20s continue to have the most positive COVID diagnoses, at 13,488 in total.

MDH says five new cases were reported in Beltrami County today, bringing the cumulative total to 207. Beltrami Public Health’s Megan Heuer reported this morning that the county was monitoring 36 active cases, with four of those cases currently hospitalized.

The Star Tribune’s COVID tracker, which is not under a paywall, records the ZIP code 56601, as of Wednesday, at 54 total confirmed cases, with weekly new cases at 49, and 4.5 cases per 1,000 people.

MDH reported two new cases in Cass County, bringing their cumulative total to 66 with two deaths, and one new case in Mahnomen County, bringing their total to 25 with one death.
