Six-year-old killed in snowmobile crash

A six-year-old girl was killed in a snowmobile crash Monday in Federal Dam.

According to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, a 35-year-old woman was operating the 2004 SkiDoo in a residential yard when she struck a stump, launching the machine down an embankment toward Leech Lake and into a tree.

CPR and lifesaving efforts on the child were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was transported to Sanford Bemidji by ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

An autopsy is scheduled and the case remains under investigation.

This is the fifth serious snowmobile crash in Cass County this month.
