Special Ward 1 Election today

The special Ward 1 contest to possibly fill out the seven-member council is today.

The two candidates vying to fill this vacancy are current Ward 3 representative Ron Johnson and a new candidate for municipal elections Gwenia Fiskevold Gould.

The vacancy was created when then-Ward 1 representative Audrey Thayer won her contest against Johnson for the at-large seat after both defeated the incumbent Daniel Jourdain in the primary.

If Johnson wins this contest today, another vacancy will be declared, but this time for Ward 3.

During the redistricting process last year, Johnson’s address was moved to Ward 1 in a contiguous line that grouped all of the BSU campus into a single ward.

Johnson’s Ward 3 term is otherwise in effect until the end of 2024.

The election today for Ward 1 residents is 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the American Indian Resource Center.
