Squaw Lake man killed in crash

A Squaw Lake man was killed in a crash Tuesday night in Itasca County.

According to the report from the Minnesota State Patrol, the man, 45-year-old Tommy Schultz, was standing near a stalled vehicle that was in the southbound lane on Highway 46 when he was struck by a southbound GMC Sierra.

The crash happened at milepost 32 on Highway 46 in Alvwood Township, near Northome, at about 9:12 p.m.

Schultz died at the scene.

The GMC driver, 30-year-old Samuel Kreuger from Max, was not injured. The state patrol doesn’t think alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Northome Fire and Squaw Lake Fire also responded to the crash.
