Staples man killed in Highway 64 crash

A Staples man was killed in a semi-truck crash yesterday afternoon on Highway 64.

According to the state patrol, one semi was eastbound on County Road 23 when it failed to yield at the stop sign on 64, striking a southbound semi on the highway.

The report says the 75-year-old victim, Durlin Astle, was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the other semi, 47-year-old Paul Hartnett of St. Louis Park, was uninjured.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Pequot Fire Department and North Ambulance assisted at the scene.
