Staples man seriously injured on Highway 64

A Staples man was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 64 yesterday afternoon.

According to the state patrol, 82-year-old Russell Nanik of Staples was eastbound on 60th Avenue in a Cadillac Escalade.

The report says he failed to yield at the intersection on Highway 64 and struck a southbound Ford F150.

Nanik was transported to North Memorial Hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup, 67-year-old William Salter of Ramsey, was uninjured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The report says Nanik was not wearing a seat belt.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and North Memorial assisted at the scene.
