Structure lost in Thursday fire

No injuries were reported but a structure was lost in a fire Thursday evening.

The Bemidji Fire Department says 17 firefighters responded to the 100 block of Gem Ln. NE around 7 p.m. Thursday.

A single-story residential-type structure was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours with five pieces of equipment.

Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters initially used an exterior attack, or defensive mode, with additional hand lines pulled to assist with fire extinguishing. The structure and its contents are considered a total loss in the fire that appears to be an accident.

The fire is still under investigation as of the last report.

The Bemidji Police Department, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Minnesota Energy, and Beltrami Electric assisted at the scene.
