Suicidal man threatening “gun fight” safely apprehended

No one was injured after a crisis negotiation involving a suicidal man threatening gun violence Sunday in Bemidji.

According to a release from Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin, a call Sunday afternoon from the individual made threats of a “shoot out” and reported themselves armed with a knife and a firearm.

After members of the Crisis Negotiations team attempted to resolve and de-escalate the situation for more than an hour, officers on perimeter at the public location encountered the male.

Hands-on tactics were used to quickly apprehend the male, who was not armed with any weapon.

The unnamed male was taken into custody for treatment purposes. Bemidji Ambulance also assisted with this incident.
