Survey indicates public support for new jail, local option sales tax

The public survey results for the Beltrami County Jail project are in.

Of the seven options presented, the top three preferred options supported are building a new jail, expanding the jail or building a regional jail.

Those who responded to the survey also indicated they would support a local option sales tax to fund the project.

In contrast, support was significantly smaller for an increase in property taxes.

The results of the survey can be viewed in full on the jail project online portal.

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners is expected to vote later this month on a jail project option.
