Tax bill includes $29 million to reimburse Enbridge for overpayment of taxes

Lawmakers agreed to an amendment that would give counties one-time grants of up to $29.4 million to reimburse Enbridge for overcollection in taxes.

Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, and Hubbard were among those counties that collected property tax dollars from Enbridge for years, and a state court recently ruled that Enbridge overpaid.

‘The state assessed the property, and counties charged that the state over-valued the land parcels the pipelines lay in.

The tax bill also includes federal conformity for tax-exempt status on unemployment insurance and PPP loans, as well as $20 million a year in homeless aid to counties.
