Temporary detour for Loop the Lake on June 18

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office says a temporary detour will be in place for the Loop the Lake Festival on June 18.

Around 1,000 bicyclists are expected on the course in the morning and early afternoon in the staged, family-friendly ride around Lake Bemidji.

Birchmont Beach Road will have a detour routing westbound traffic north on Country Club Drive to Sumac and south on Bemidji Avenue from 8 a.m. to noon.

Eastbound traffic will use the north side of Birchmont Beach Road as they travel to Country Club Drive.

On the east side of the Lake, bicyclists will use the Paul Bunyan Trail and they are required to stop at each road crossing.

Drivers should still approach trail crossings with heightened caution.

The detour will be removed after riders clear the area.
